Homeownership Equality Lending Partner (HELP)
The Homeownership Equality Research Organization (HERO) is looking to team up with mortgage lenders to increase homeownership among Blacks and other socially and economically disadvantaged people.
We do this by working with loan officers, underwriters and processors to assist loan applicants from the targeted groups qualify for and obtain financing.
HERO enables lenders to reach the disadvantaged by closing loans that would otherwise be declined. We do this through down payment assistance, covering closing costs, increasing reserves and improving the applicant’s debt-to-income ratio. In addition HERO provides financial education and foreclosure avoidance assistance.
The aim of HERO is to erase housing injustice and increase homeownership diversity by enabling more disadvantaged people become homeowners. Our programs are win-win. Our HELP close loans that would otherwise be rejected, and help Blacks and other disadvantaged people live in their very own homes.
Homeownership is the most effective way to reverse the effects of historic and persistent oppression while bringing wealth and prosperity to communities of color. Study after study show that homeownership is the most effective and efficient way for low- and middle-income households to accumulate wealth. One study by HUD, concluded that it is really the only way.
We are looking for partners to fight housing inequity, stand boldly as Change Agents for good and become beacons of corporate responsibility -- be the HELP we all need.
